The Thai Army Chief has said local people will be able to accept the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the prolonged dispute over the area near Preah Vihear temple between Thailand and Cambodia , expressing his belief that there will be no violent incidents.
Army Commander in Chief General Prayuth Chan-Ocha on October 23 said that the case will reach its critical point on November 11 when the ICJ announces its ruling.
He confirmed that the army is ready for any situation, saying that he has instructed authorities along the Thai-Cambodian border to step up security measures.
In addition, he also urged officials to inform the locals of the latest development and the nation's stance, in order to ensure their safety.
As for the relations between the two nations, the bond of Thailand and Cambodia remains strong, citing continued talks between their officials, especially military officials, along the borderline.
He also assured the public that the ICJ's ruling on the case will not affect the military relations of the two countries, expressing his belief that there will be no violence as an aftermath. He, however, hoped the people will be able to accept the outcome, regardless of how it is.-VNA/NNT
