Thailand Prime Minister visits Malaysia

Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-O-Cha held talks with his counterpart Najib Razak on December 1 to discuss the progress of peace talks in the southern region of Thailand along the two countries’ shared border.

This is Prayuth’s first visit to Malaysia since he took office after the coup in May.

According to an announcement made by the Malaysian government onDecember 1, Prayuth’s visit will create opportunities for the two sidesto boost the existing cooperation in various fields, such as trade andinvestment.

Meanwhile, Prayuth’s government expressed its hopeto restart Malaysia- hosted peace talks between Thailand and Muslimrebels which began under former Thai Prime Minister YingluckShinawatra’s time.

Those talks made little headway and collapsed last year during Thailand’s political crisis.-VNA
