Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand remains committed to a people-centered foreign policy, focusing on "diplomacy for the people" and proactive economic diplomacy, the country’s Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa said at a press briefing on September 19.
The policy will continue under Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's government, building on previous strategies, he said, outlining priorities including addressing cross-border issues such as drug trafficking, water resource management, phone scams, and air pollution through cooperation with neighbouring countries like China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Another priority is the introduction of the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) which targets global talent seeking to live and work remotely in Thailand.
The country is also promoting its soft power by showcasing unique local products at Thai festivals globally. In addition, protecting Thai citizens abroad, especially in emergencies, remains a top priority.
The minister also stressed that Thailand will continue to advocate for common peace and prosperity./.
