Thailand’s caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and the Election Commission have agreed to hold a fresh general election on July 20, after a previous one held in February was nullified by the Constitutional Court due to disruption by protesters.
The date was reached during the talks between the Government and the EC on April 30 , EC Secretary General Puchong Nutrawong said at a press conference following the meeting.
He added that the EC will suggest the Government draft a royal decree on the election to submit to the King for approval, and revealed the Thai Cabinet will discuss the decree next week.
The Democrat Party, which boycotted the February election, has yet to decide whether to participate in the new poll.-VNA
