The Government of Thailand has imposed the Internal Security Act (ISA) in the capital city Bangkok and surrounding areas in a move to deal with escalating anti-government demonstrations.
The ISA will come into effect in Bangkok, Nonthaburi province and some districts in the provinces of Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said in a televised speech on November 25.
She called upon anti-government protestors to end their demonstration and occupation of government buildings, and stressed that all Thai people have to comply with the law.
The premier also promised no violence in the process of regaining control in the aforesaid areas.
Under the act, Thai police are entitled to block routes, impose a curfew, ban gatherings and carry out searches if necessary.
Local sources said on November 26, demonstrators continued to surround Thailand’s interior, agriculture, transport, and sports and tourism ministries, ordering officials inside to leave, a day after occupying the finance and foreign ministries.-VNA
