Thailand will try to depoliticize the ongoing border conflict with Cambodia and to solve the problem through negotiation, Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said.

Speaking at a press briefing in Bangkok on Aug. 2, the FM stressed that Bangkok did not want to have any political problem with the neighboring country. The border was still open. And, all agreements they had with Cambodia were still in place.

Thailand will proceed with the Thai-Cambodia memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the overlapping continental shelf area signed in June, 2000, Kasit said.

Kasit's remark was made after the World Heritage Committee (WHC) decided on July 29 to reschedule its discussion on Cambodia 's management plan for the Hindu Preah Vihear Temple to its annual meeting in Bahrain in 2011.

On July 30, the Thai PM affirmed determination that border conflict would not affect bilateral ties and call on relevant agencies of Thailand to take the advantages of the WHC decision to postpone Cambodia ’s plan on management of the temple to study Phnom Penh ’s proposal to protect national benefits at the dispute area./.
