Thailand ’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and fisheries industry representatives will launch a good labour practices (GLP) programme for Thailand’s fishing sector.
The GLP is a comprehensive programme that combines establishment of industry guidelines with a supportive good labour practices training programme.
The GLP guidelines aim to address unacceptable forms of labour and promote existing laws and regulation, in particular on child labour and forced labour, and to promote a culture of compliance within the industry.
Customised GLP guidelines are developed for each sector in the fisheries industry: fishing, marine shrimp farming, primary processing and processing/packing factories.
Some 150 representatives of seafood industry enterprises will sign a pact pledging to respect the principles of the GLP guidelines and participate in the GLP training programme.-VNA
