Thailand is planning to propose a roadmap to solve the smog crisis at the upcoming ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (AMME) to be held in Vietnam on October 29-30, as a guideline for every member nation to follow.

Indonesian wildfires have affected several countries in the region, said Thai Pollution Control Department (PCD) Director General Wijarn Simachaya, adding that particle densities in Thailand’s southern provinces have not exceeded safety levels, except in Phuket, which recorded 200 micrograms per cubic meter.

He said he believes that the situation will improve by mid-October.

There will also be another meeting next week to brainstorm solutions to the annual haze crisis that occurs in the North of Thailand from March to April. Every year, the haze forces northerners to wear masks outdoors, while those with respiratory illnesses are told to stay home.-NNT/VNA
