Bangkok (VNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said the country is determined to sell all the rice in national reserves this year, reported local media on January 17.
The government will resume rice auctions in Q1 of 2017. Since the beginning of the rice selling programme in 2015, national reserves have fell to about eight million tonnes from 18.7 million tonnes.
The Government will devise an auction plan for rice suitable for human consumption, though detailed schedule has yet to be fixed.
Thailand was one of the world’s leading rice exporters in 2016 with 9.63 million tonnes, along with India, Vietnam and Pakistan.-VNA
