The cyberpolice bureau was approved in principle by national police chief Pol GenChakthip Chaijinda on May 28.
A meeting ofthe Police Commission chaired by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has alsoconsidered setting up the unit.
Minister ofSocial Economy and Society Buddhipongse Punnakanta said the cyber police bureauwill come under the police's Technology Crime Suppression Division.
It will beresponsible for cybercrime and threats including fake news.
The policeunit is expected help expand technology crime suppression and help people inother provinces who want to file complaints.
Set to be upand running within the next three months, the new police unit will compriseseven divisions with a total of 1,705 officers./.
