Thailand: voting to be conducted again at six polling stations

The Election Commission (EC) of Thailand has ordered the recount of votes at two polling stations and organisation of new elections at six other polling stations because the numbers of voters did not match the numbers of ballots.

Bangkok (VNA) – The ElectionCommission (EC) of Thailand has ordered the recount of votes at two pollingstations and organisation of new elections at six other polling stationsbecause the numbers of voters did not match the numbers of ballots.  

The recount involves two pollingstations in Khon Kaen province, while the new election are required at stationsin Bangkok and provinces Lampang, Yasothorn, Petchaboon, and Phitsanulok.

The new election is likely to beheld after the Songkran holidays.

Thailand conducted a generalelection on March 24 this year. Preliminary results based on the count of 95percent of votes announced by the EC on March 28 showed the Palang PracharathParty, which backs incumbent Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, won the largestnumber of votes, followed by the Pheu Thai.

The official election outcome isslated to be announced on May 9, because relevant agencies need time to handleofficial complaints, the EC said.

Analysts said the recount ofvotes and organisation of new elections could affect the schedule of electionoutcome announcement.-VNA
