Bangkok (VNA) – The Thai Government has urged the public not to believe online sports betting sites that promise high returns, as they aim to lure people into betting on Euro 2024 football matches in Germany.

Karom Polpornklang, deputy spokesperson at the Office of the Prime Minister, said that the Government was concerned about citizens falling prey to various types of crimes. A large number of people have lost their assets due to gambling.

He said if there are any illegal activities or tip-offs related to online gambling, citizens can report them to the 191 emergency hotline or the National Police Headquarters hotline at 1599, available 24 hours a day.

Players, promoters, and organisers of football gambling would be subject to penalty under the Gambling Act, which includes imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 2,000 THB (55 USD), or both, he warned./.
