The number of investment projects seeking promotion from the Board of Investment (BoI) was growing over the past three months as a sign of improved confidence among investors, a BoI official was quoted by Thai media.
BoI Secretary General Udom Wongviwatchai said 147 investment projects sought BoI privileges in July, the highest number in the first seven months of this year.
In the first seven months, 770 projects worth 372 billion baht applied for BoI privileges. They involved metal products, machines and transport equipment, service and public utility, chemical products, paper, plastic and farm products.
During the time, the country had 447 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a combined investment value of 261 billion baht, Udom said.
Japan remains the largest foreign investor, with 220 projects totalling 89.9 billion baht. The Republic of Korea proposed 27 projects, while Americans had 16 projects and Europeans 70 projects.-VNA
