Bangkok (VNA) - The Royal Thai Police (RTP) has confirmed its readiness to ensure safety and the facilitation of traffic flow during the 34th ASEAN Summit from June 20-23.
Police General Srivara Rangsiphrammanakun, Deputy Commissioner General of the RTP, was quoted by the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT) as saying that the force has rehearsed a comprehensive security plan which covers the accommodation area of the participants and the meeting venue.
He has expressed his belief that the overall traffic management will not affect the general public as the important meeting dates fall on weekend.
The deputy commissioner general has also instructed the Immigration Bureau to open a special channel to facilitate those who will attend the ASEAN Summit and more strictly inspect people traveling in and out of the country.
Srivara added that the RTP will open an ASEAN Summit Security Operation Centre to follow up on information and situations before, during and after the meeting.
He has called on the public to watch out for suspicious things and not to stage movements. Violators will be strictly prosecuted according to the law. He has confirmed that the situation is not worrisome.
Thailand will host the 34th ASEAN Summit, themed “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”, on June 22 and 23. -VNA
