As many as 20 Thailand ’s textile and garment businesses attended a business exchange held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 27 to further their presence in the Vietnamese market.
The event forms part of various business connecting programmes conducted by Thailand ’s trading and investment promotion agencies to help their businesses be well-prepared for the opportunities offered by the formation of the ASEAN economic community in 2015.
Trade relations between Thailand and Vietnam have seen a constant development over the past years, said Malinee Harnboonsong, Consul Commercial at the Thai Trade Centre in HCM City , adding that annual two-way trade is around 9.5 billion USD, and hit almost 5 billion USD in the first half of this year.
She said Thai businesses consider Vietnam a potential market and are keen to establish long-term ties with Vietnamese partners.
Meanwhile, statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trading (MoIT) show that for the January-June period, two-way trade turnover in the textile sector stood at 160 million USD, with Vietnam’s imports worth 140 million USD.
