Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s consumer confidence has risen for 12 months in a row, reaching a 39-month high in May, according to a new survey.
The survey by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) shows that the consumer index rose to 55.7 in May from 55.0 in April.
Thai government spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri said that Thailand attracted 10.4 million foreign tourists from the beginning of this year to May 28,
According to the UTCC, spending during the May election helped consumption, and confidence was also boosted by better-than-expected economic growth in the first quarter, driven by tourism. The government expects the country will welcome at least 25 million international visitors in 2023.
However, the survey also shows that consumers are quite concerned about the high cost of living and the risk of political instability after the election./.
