The National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) has indicated that Thailand’s economy is still recovering.

Since the Monetary Policy Committee reduced the benchmark rate, the baht currency has appreciated, the export sector has been recovering, and the tourism sector generated more income, Dean of NIDA’s Economic Development Faculty Nada Chansom told news media.

She said that these factors signal a fragile recovering economy for the second quarter of 2015.

Nada also expressed her opinion that the government should postpone the minimum wage hike for the time being, due to the current fragile economic situation. She said that the administration should focus more on assistance measures for low-income earners.

She reiterated that thorough studies are mandatory before implementing the wage hike. She pointed out that the 2011 wages hike placed a heavy financial burden on small and medium-sized enterprises.-VNA
