The Thai Transport Ministry has affirmed that the country’s logistics system will be ready before the realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
Speaking at a seminar on the readiness of Thailand ’s logistics system for the AEC, Transport Deputy Minister General Prin Suwanatat said that the country is now 70 percent ready in terms of its transportation system.
He expressed his belief that Thailand ’s transportation system is as good as those of its neighbouring countries of Malaysia and Singapore . However, when taking trucking business into consideration, Thailand is ahead of its competitors, as it has nearly 20,000 trucking companies providing services even though many of them are sorely in need of quality and standard improvement.
The deputy minister went on to say that before the AEC is finally introduced, his ministry will strictly enforce delivery-related regulations forcing all entrepreneurs to keep up with the standards, saying the move will enable them to compete with their counterparts in the region.-VNA
