Thailand’s logistics system to be ready before AEC formation

The Thai Transport Ministry has affirmed that the country’s logistics system will be ready before the realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
The Thai Transport Ministry has affirmed that the country’s logisticssystem will be ready before the realisation of the ASEAN EconomicCommunity (AEC).

Speaking at a seminar on the readinessof Thailand ’s logistics system for the AEC, Transport DeputyMinister General Prin Suwanatat said that the country is now 70 percentready in terms of its transportation system.

He expressedhis belief that Thailand ’s transportation system is as good as thoseof its neighbouring countries of Malaysia and Singapore . However,when taking trucking business into consideration, Thailand is aheadof its competitors, as it has nearly 20,000 trucking companies providingservices even though many of them are sorely in need of quality andstandard improvement.

The deputy minister went on to saythat before the AEC is finally introduced, his ministry will strictlyenforce delivery-related regulations forcing all entrepreneurs to keepup with the standards, saying the move will enable them to compete withtheir counterparts in the region.-VNA

In the hard-hit port city of General Santos, disaster management officials confirmed seven deaths after several buildings collapsed and key infrastructure was damaged. The port city of General Santos suffered the heaviest damage, with disaster management officials confirming seven fatalities and about 130 injuries after several small buildings collapsed and multiple structures, including a key bridge, sustained severe cracks.
