Speaking at a joint news conferencein the capital Bangkok on April 5 , with the presence of forcescommanders of Army, Navy and Air Force, Thai Supreme Armed ForcesCommander Gen. Songkitti Jakkabat affirmed that the military would notstage a coup. He urged Thai people not to worry about the rumors.

Songkitti confirmed the military will not bring any pressure on anypolitical parties during election, saying that all political partieswould be free to campaign for vote at all military apparatuses.

He said the army will not seek to affect voters beforethe election as well as to interfere in establishment process of a newgovernment after the election.

On the same day, Puea Thai Party chairman Chavalit Yongchaiyudh said the army was unlikely to stage coup at the moment./.
