Top Vietnamese male swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc will carry Vietnam's national flag at the opening ceremony of the 17th Asian Games (Asiad) in Incheon, the Republic of Korea, on September 19.
Lam Quang Thanh, chief-de-mission and deputy head of the National Sports Administration, said the Da Nang-born swimmer was chosen for his achievements at the 27th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games last year and the Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in June.
His 1.82m height and good form likewise reinforced the decision, Thanh added. Phuoc was also chosen to carry the national colours at the 27th Southeast Asian Games.
As planned, the event's organising board will hold Vietnam's flag-raising ceremony at the Asiad athletes' village on September 18.
The 199-member-Vietnamese contingent will compete in 21 of 31 sports events in Incheon from September 19 to October 4.
All matches will be broadcast live on SCTV (Saigontourist Cable Television Limited Company) channels.-VNA
