A series of activities will be held nationwide to mark the 85th founding anniversary of the national trade union organisation - the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) (July 28, 1929-July 28, 2014).
The VGCL’s Vice President Nguyen Van Ngang said a workshop is scheduled to be held on July 22 to review the operations of the VGCL during the past 85 years and the role it plays in the national construction and defence. Lessons will be drawn for the trade union organisation to improve its work in the current period.
Also on the occasion, the VGCL will coordinate with the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) to organise a seminar on female workers from July 24-27, with the aim of sharing information and experience regarding the protection of legitimate rights and interests for the female workforce. At the same time, the event is expected to contribute to enhancing the cooperation between the VGCL and the WFTU as well as its member organisations.
On July 27, outstanding trade union activists will be honoured at a conference, and a live programme will be broadcast by the Ho Chi Minh City Television on July 28 highlighting the national trade union organisation which represents working people in the country.
The VGCL currently has around 8 million members.-VNA
