Traffic accidents, fatalities drop in nine months

As many as 488 traffic accidents were recorded from August 15 to September 14, claiming 253 lives and injuring 301 people, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.

Hanoi (VNA) - As many as 488 traffic accidents were recorded from August 15 to September14, claiming 253 lives and injuring 301 people, according to the NationalTraffic Safety Committee.

These represented significant reductions of 60.71 percent, 54percent, and 67.42 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

There were a total of 8,161 traffic accidents over the last ninemonths from December 15, 2020 to September 14, killing 4,175 people andinjuring 5,645 others. The figures dropped 23.64 percent, 16.37 percent and 28.38percent, respectively, year-on-year.

During the nine months, 8,062 road accidents caused 4,098deaths and 5,631 injuries, falling by 23.55 percent, 16.09 percent, and 28.34percent on-year, respectively.

Meanwhile, 54 railway accidents left 43 people dead and 13injured. Thirty-eight accidents on waterways claimed 25 lives and injured one,while seven maritime accidents left nine dead and missing./.

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.

19 localities eradicate substandard houses
