Tokyo (VNA) – The Chiba District Courton June 4 commenced the trial for a man accused of murdering a 9-year-oldVietnamese girl last year.

YasumasaShibuya, 46, was arrested on April 14, 2017 on suspicion of dumping the body ofLe Thi Nhat Linh, a third-grader living in Matsudo town.

The same day,Japanese police served a new arrest warrant on the man, charging the suspectwith murder and abandonment of the victim’s body, after tests results showedthat DNA taken from Shibuya matched those of samples found on the victim’sbody.

The trial is open to public. More than 60 out ofthe 400 queuing people were allowed to enter the courtroom.

Linh disappeared shortly after leaving her homeon foot for her school on March 24, 2017. Her body was found two days later inAbiko, Chiba. She is thought to have been choked to death, based on marks foundon her neck.

Shibuya was head of the parents' association atthe elementary school in Matsudo which the victim attended. He lives about 300metres from the victim's home.-VNA
