U14 Asia-Pacific baseball champs opens

The 2012 Little League Asian Pacific Baseball U14 Championship opened in the central coastal city of Nha Trang on June 30.
The 2012 Little League Asian Pacific Baseball U14 Championship opened in the central coastal city of Nha Trang on June 30.

The week-long event is coorganised by the Vietnam Olympic Committee and the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It attracts the participation of six teams from Indonesia , the Philippines , Hong Kong , Taiwan and the host country.

The winners of the event will represent the Asia-Pacific region to compete at the Little League Junior World Series to be held in Michigan State , the US , this August.

Hanoi ’s junior team played rivals from Indonesia right after the opening ceremony.

Founded in 2008, the Hanoi team draws over 100 players to train each weekend in Hanoi under the supervision of American lawyer Thomas Treutler.

The team has collected a clutch of medals including the Asian Pacific Baseball U14 and U12 Championships in 2010 and 2011, respectively./.
