HCM City (VNA) - The U18 ITF Junior Circuit – Group 5 Tournament began major matches at Phu Tho Tennis Club, in Ho Chi Minh City on July 19.

The event features the competition of 120 juniors from Australia, China, Bangladesh, Hong Kong (China), India, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam.

On the day, in boys’ singles match, Nguyen Dac Tien defeated Chanon Phunsawat from Thailand 2-0 while Huynh Minh Thinh won over Kavan Somu Kumar from India 2-0.

Meanwhile, in girls’ singles match, Phan Ngoc Mai Linh, Nguyen Thị Phuong, Nguyen Ngoc Minh Phuong failed to advance.

In the afternoon, matches were postponed due to rains.

The tournament, jointly held by the municipal Culture and Sport Department and the municipal Tennis Federation, will run through to July 24.-VNA
