Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon has reportedly congratulated Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen for his re-election as leader of the country’s executive body from 2013-2018.
The UN chief made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with the prime minister on October 10 during the 23rd ASEAN Summit held in Brunei.
Ban was quoted by the Khmer language website CEN congratulating Cambodia on its successful organisation of the July general election in an atmosphere of democracy, freedom and security.
He also spoke highly of Cambodia’s participation and implementation of UN peacekeeping humanitarian tasks since 2006.
At present, 1,237 Cambodian soldiers are participating in peacekeeping activities in Sudan, the Chad Republic and Middle Africa.
During the meeting, the UN chief extended his sympathy to the Cambodian Government and people over the losses caused by floods in the country in recent weeks.-VNA
