The United Nations has expressed its concern over serious floods in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and said it is ready to assist these countries cope with the disaster which have claimed the lives of hundreds of people.
The spokesperson of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Elisabeth Burs said in Geneva that an UN Disaster Assessment and Coordination group is ready to deploy in these countries if requested.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) proposed to assist the Thai Government in coping with floods that claimed more than 280 lives and affected more than 2 million people since July.
Late last week, UN Deputy Secretary General Valerie Amos warned the floods in Southeast Asia may worsen as rains continue and water levels in rivers keep rising./.
