The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will spend some 579 million USD for its 2011-2015 projects in Cambodia, particularly on economic growth, sustainable development, health and education, gender equity and good governance.
According to Cambodia’s news agency AKP, the information was released during a meeting in Phnom Penh on March 26 between Claire Van de Vaeren, UN Resident Coordinator and New Country Director of UNDP to Cambodia and Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong.
During the meeting, Claire Van de Vaeren highlighted the above-mentioned five priorities to assist Cambodia in fighting poverty, AKP quoted Koy Kuong, Spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as saying.
Hor Namhong expressed profound thanks to UNDP for its assistance and cooperation, particularly helping the Cambodian government achieve the millennium goals in HIV/AIDS prevention and maternity and child death rate reduction.
Moreover, he also urged the UN to focus on health care, education and hygiene in the remote area in order to improve people’s livelihood.-VNA
