There were nearly 100,000 people applying for unemployment benefits each month this year while the monthly average in 2019 was just 60,000-70,000, according to an official of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
The average income of Vietnamese workers in the first half of 2024 was 7.5 million VND (nearly 300 USD) per month, up 7.4% or 519,000 VND compared to the same period last year, said Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan.
Cambodia is preparing another 12 million USD as assistance for jobless workers as factories remain closed, Cambodian Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training spokesman Heng Sour has said.
The number of recipients of unemployment benefits nationwide rose by 9.11 percent to 378,000 people during the first quarter of 2020 as a large amount of businesses have been forced to suspend operation or go bankrupt by the wide-spreading novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Around 81.76 million people have joined health insurance as of the end of August, or 87.25 percent of the population, according to the Vietnam Social Security (VSS).
The Vietnam Social Security (VSS) collected 121.1 trillion VND (5.38 billion USD) in revenue as of late May, or 36.7 percent of the yearly plan, it announced during a press conference on May 30.
