UNESCO helps Vietnam strengthen vocational education for out-of-school children

The UNESCO Office in Vietnam in coordination with the Centre for Vocational Education and Training under the Trade Union of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on February 26 launched a project on facilitating access to vocational and transferable skills for out-of-school children and youth in Vietnam.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau(VNA) – The UNESCO Office in Vietnam in coordination with the Centre for Vocational Education and Training under the Trade Union of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on February 26 launched a project on facilitatingaccess to vocational and transferable skills for out-of-school children andyouth in Vietnam.

The project, which will becarried out in southern provinces of Dong Thap and Ba Ria-Vung Tau in 2023-2024, aims to narrow the gap in accessibility to schooling by children and youth. It is thethird phase of a larger project implemented by UNESCO in the Association of SoutheastAsian Nations (ASEAN) region with the first phase implemented in Indonesia(2018-2019) and Thailand (2020-2021).

Miki Nozawa, head of the education department at the UNESCO Office in Vietnam, said the project isexpected to be a driving force for boosting socioeconomic growth of thelocalities and the region.

Key occupations for training programmes in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province include basic bakingtechniques, cooking techniques, welding, civil electricity, basicindustrial sewing techniques, basic spa care techniques and restaurant serviceskills.

In addition to grantingvocational certificates, after completing the programme, trainees will getsupport in securing jobs as well as better integrating into the community.

Tran Quang Vinh, director of the Centre for Vocational Education and Training, said with vocational skills acquired, they can get stable jobs with betterincome.

To date, the centre hasenrolled 210 students. It will organise seven vocational training classes, with35 students each, which will start in March in Vung Tau city and Xuyen Mocdistrict, he said./.

Remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers, experts repatriated from Laos

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.

19 localities eradicate substandard houses
