Unique values of Ca Mau Cape World Biosphere Reserve
The status of a world biosphere reserve has significantly contributed to the conservation of biodiversity in Ca Mau Cape wetland ecosystems and the preservation of humane values there. The recognition also helps promote the sustainable development by maintaining the equilibrium of the human-ecosystem within the reserve.
The southernmost province of Ca Mau has restored nearly 1,000ha of protective forests thanks to embankment projects, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Among the over 33,000ha of drought-hit forest in the southernmost province of Ca Mau, more than 13,530ha has fire potential rated as “dangerous” (Level 4) and nearly 4,000ha “extremely dangerous” (Level 5), local authorities said.
Located at Vietnam’s southernmost point, Ca Mau province not only benefits from its geographical location but also boasts an advantageous natural environment with diverse ecosystems. Its advantages include seas, islands, wetlands, mangrove forests, a World Biosphere Reserve, and two national parks, as well as a wide range of local specialties.
