The US Senate on August 3 adopted the appointment of career foreign service officer David Shear as the new ambassador to Vietnam after several months of delay, according to AFP.
President Barack Obama appointed Shear with a 30-year experience in the foreign service as the US ambassador to Vietnam last December.
Earlier, Shear served as the deputy assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
Also the same day, the Senate also ratified Derek Mitchell as the first US special envoy to Myanmar.
