Viet Nam’s most prominent contributions to UN’s activities
Since becoming an official member of the United Nations (UN) on September 20, 1977, Vietnam has been always active and making practical contribution to the world’s largest int'l organisation.
Vietnam will host the United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations in 2019 and an international Buddhism conference in the northern province of Ha Nam from May 12-14 next year.
Mobilising officers to take part in peacekeeping missions and deploying field hospitals in South Sudan in recent years have contributed to affirming Vietnam’s role in the activities of the UN.
Vesak is the most sacred day to millions of Buddhists worldwide. The UN General Assembly in 1999 recognised the Day of Vesak to celebrate the thrice-sacred event of the life of the Buddha Gautama.
