Hanoi (VNA) –
The Vietnam Associationof Film Promotion and Development made its first public appearance in Hanoi onJuly 25.

More than 100 delegates operating in the fieldof film production attended the launching ceremony.

Former director of the Vietnam Cinema Departmentunder the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ngo Phuong Lan was electedChairwoman of the association.

She said the Vietnamese cinema industry hasdeveloped strongly in recent years, but the rate of foreign movies remainsbig. 

Meanwhile, made-in-Vietnam films have beenthriving in both quality and quantity, but only a handful gain high revenues,she added.

If legitimate rights are not protected and thereis no favourable mechanism, Vietnamese film producers will even go bankrupt,she warned.

Therefore, the establishment of the associationaims to protect and support local film producers and businesses to boost thedevelopment of the Vietnamese cinema industry, she affirmed.

It also creates opportunities to expandinternational cooperation, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnameseland, people and traditional cultures through movies.

The association is considered a social –occupational organisation operating under the management of the Ministry ofHome Affairs.-VNA

Remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers, experts repatriated from Laos

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.
