Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Van Thang has led a delegation to attend the seventh Water Technology and Environment Control Exhibition and Conference (WATEC 2013) held in Tel Aviv, Israel from October 22-24.

The event drew representatives from more than 160 domestic and international businesses, together with policy-makers and researchers.

The exhibition introduced solutions and technologies to maximize the use of water for higher production value, in the context of reducing water resources globally, with about 2 billion people lack clean water for their daily use. The shortage is forecast to worsen in the future due to expanding population and climate change.

Talking to the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondent on this occasion, Deputy Minister Thang said Vietnam can learn much from Israel ’s water technologies for agricultural use, especially advanced irrigation systems which help save water and fertiliser while ensuring crop productivity.

He said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is seeking cooperation with Israel with a focus on irrigation systems for industrial crops such as coffee, tea, pepper and vegetables, which would be suitable for areas vulnerable to drought such as the Central Highlands.-VNA
