A seminar was held in the southern province of Tay Ninh on December 20 to discuss measures to embrace border trade links between Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
Themed “Tay Ninh – Gateway to develop Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos border trade”, the event saw the participation of officials from the three countries and representatives from over 100 local and foreign businesses.
Attendees heard that from 2008 to late 2013, Vietnam’s total exports via its border gates with the two neighbours were estimated to be 19 billion USD, an average increase of 22 percent per year.
Vietnam is likely to fulfil the target of increasing its trade value with Laos and Cambodia to 2 billion USD and 5 billion USD respectively by 2015, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Cam Tu.
He suggested building infrastructure for cross-border import-export activities and developing the goods transport route from Tay Ninh to Cambodian and Lao provinces.
Vietnam’s Trade Counsellor in Laos, Tran Bao Giam, recommended the trio further reform their procedures to facilitate the flows of passengers and cargo.-VNA
