Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) - The criminal police departments under the Vietnamese and Chinese Ministries of Public Security organised a conference in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on July 11 to launch a campaign to crackdown on human trafficking crimes.
Co-chairing the function were deputy directors of the two departments Colonel Vu Van Dau of Vietnam and Colonel Chen Shiqu of China.
It was reported at the conference that recently, along the Vietnam-China border, human trafficking criminals committed their illegal activities by exploiting the two countries’ traditional socio-politico-economic and cultural ties as well as their policies promoting economic openness and international integration.
Between December 2020 and early 2024, Vietnam detected over 100 cases of human trafficking to China, which involved more than 200 suspects and nearly 200 victims. Exploiting advancements in information technology, traffickers often use fake names, ages, addresses, and photos to befriend the victims, promising them lucrative overseas jobs and wealth, among others, to lure them to go to China. In the first six months alone, the Vietnamese criminal police prosecuted 20 suspects in nine new cases.
It is forecasted that human trafficking from Vietnam to China will remain complex and potentially increase in the near future. To effectively prevent this crime, Vietnamese and Chinese criminal police agreed to continue to closely cooperate and take coordinated and drastic measures to combat the crime throughout each country's territory./.
