Athlete Nguyen Thi Thu Huong has won the first gold for Vietnam in the 3,000m hurdle event the first day of the Asian Youth Athletics Champs that kicked off at Hanoi’s My Dinh National Stadium on July 1.
The champs, an official sporting event of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) for athletes aged 18 and 19, drew the participation of nearly 650 athletes, coaches and officials from 37 Asian countries and territories.
Meanwhile, seven Vietnamese golfers have earned berths at the Asian Final for the Mercedes Trophy 2010 slated for August in Australia .
The golfers are winners of the country final that took place in the central provinces of Quang Nam and Da Nang on June 25 and 26.
After the Asian Final, the best Vietnamese golfer will represent the nation in the World Final to be held in Stuttgart, Germany, in September.
