Vietnam, Cuba vow to boost financial cooperation

Cuban Minister of Finance and Prices Lina Pedraza and Deputy Vietnamese Finance Minister Nguyen Cong Nghiep expressed the determination at the recent talks in Cuba.

Deputy Minister Nghiep, who is in Cuba for a five-day working visit that will last through Jan. 20, informed the host of Vietnam’s financial and budget policy to stabilise macro-economy while ensuring sustainable economic growth and social welfare.

He also briefed the host of Vietnam ’s socio-economic achievements during the 2001-08 period and orientations for the nation’s financial policy in 2010.

Cuban Minister Pedraza highlighted Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements over the past years and the country’s timely and effective implementation of financial solutions to minimise negative impacts of the global economic crisis.

Both host and guest assessed the implementation of the two ministries’ cooperation programmes last year.

They also exchanged experiences in budget deficit and connections with gross domestic product and the management of funds for social development and investment as well as tariff measures.

Also on the occasion, Deputy Minister Nghiep and his Cuban counterpart Felix Martinez inked a cooperation agreement between the two ministries for 2010./.
