Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen has affirmed that his country is expanding cooperation with Vietnam in science and technology, focusing on green growth and new energy, in which Denmark has many experiences that it is willing to share with Vietnam.
The ambassador made the remark at the annual meeting of the Vietnam-Denmark pilot Research Cooperation Programme in Hanoi on April 18.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanh highly valued the Research Cooperation Programme between the two sides as well as Denmark’s support for Vietnam’s science and technology sector.
He noted that the programme has attracted the interest of Vietnam’s science and technology community for its efficiency in tackling important issues that Vietnam is facing, including the urgent matter of climate change.
During the meeting, participants evaluated outcomes of the cooperation programme between the two sides over the past years, with five projects launched in 2009, 2010 and 2011. These projects cover the creation of new flood-resistant and salt-tolerant rice varieties for coastal plain areas, measures to help aquaculture adapt to climate change in the northern region, new technologies to treat and recycle water, multi-lateral communication systems to reduce the northern central region’s disaster vulnerability, and sustainable development of aquaculture in the central regioin in the context of climate change.
The two sides also updated each other on the latest policies of their respective countries in the field of science and technology, and worked out the direction for research cooperation in the coming period.
