The first batch of relief goods donated by the Vietnamese Government and people to Japanese victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami arrived at Narita airport on April 28.
Made by firms in Vietnam , the eight tonnes of relief supplies worth 150,000 USD included clothes, towels, socks and disposable chopsticks.
Later the same day, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh officially donated the relief to Secretary of State for the Japanese Foreign Ministry Yutaka Banno.
Banno thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for their valuable help to victims in northeastern Japan , affirming that the aid represented essential goods for people in disaster-hit areas.
Apart from the Vietnamese Government’s 200,000 USD donation to Japan , many organisations and individuals in Vietnam have been making donations to Japanese victims via different channels, such as the Vietnam Red Cross and the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam , Ambassador Binh said.
The Vietnam Red Cross alone has raised 121 billion VND to help the Japanese victims./.
