The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on March 27 officially introduced Spanish coach Bruno Jose Formoso as the head of the men’s national futsal (indoor football) team, and revealed the target of entering the list of top eight Asian futsal teams.
Formoso, whose contract lasts until June 30, 2017, is expected to improve the team’s performance and the development of futsal in Vietnam, according to the VFF.
VFF President Le Hung Dung said the national team’s constant move forward in the Futsal Asia rankings has driven Vietnam’s ambition of being one of the eight leading futsal teams in Asia.
The target is achievable and the signing of the contract with Formoso is one step closer to such a goal, he stated.
Formoso said in the short term, the team needs to be in the top eight teams in the Asian Futsal Championship, slated for late April in Vietnam.
Formoso, 39, is a member and trainer of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (REEF). He won the Ramon Cobo, an award for best REEF coach, in the 2011-2012 season. He worked in China and Peru before coming to Vietnam.-VNA
