Vietnam International Digital Week 2022 seeks sustainable digital future

The Ministry of Information and Communications will coordinate with ASEAN countries, including Japan, the Republic of Korea, India and international organizations such as UNESCO, ITU, WB to organize professional forums with different topics.

The first Vietnam International Digital Week (VIDW) 2022 kicked off in Hanoi on October 11 with the participation of leaders of ministries, sectors and management agencies related to digital transformation from ASEAN countries, as well as international organisations, associations and digital firms from all around the world.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, the event, part of the activities to respond to the National Digital Transformation Day (October 10), was held under the theme of “Global Partnership for Sustainable Digital Future”.

Running until October 14, the week covers a series of activities, such as conferences, forums on digital transformation and the development of digital economy. Other events include workshops on the digital society, 5G network, cooperation in data protection, fake news prevention and combat, and the improvement of digital skills for the people.

Vietnam has designed important strategies to speed up digital transformation and boost the digital economy, digital society and digital government. Establishing bilateral and multilateral digital partnerships with countries in the region and the world has been defined as a key task in the next 10 years, in order to maximise resources for the acceleration of the construction of a digital Vietnam.

The VIDW 2022 focuses on promoting and expanding digital partnerships, with a priority to complete institution and management environment, developing the digital technology industry and digital infrastructure, building a safe and reliable cyberspace and improving digital skills for people.

The event is also a chance for organisations, individuals and businesses from Vietnam, other ASEAN countries and the world to directly meet, share information and seek cooperation opportunities and partnership in trade, investment, market development, thus joining hands in promoting digital transformation.

Speaking at the opening of the event, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said digital cooperation among ASEAN countries aims to create a digital ASEAN.

"To implement One ASEAN, digital transformation and digital cooperation are the best solutions. Vietnam wishes to sign digital partnerships with countries in and out of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). We expect to have Vietnam - India, Vietnam - Japan and Vietnam - Korea forums to discuss the development of digital partnership.”

The establishment of the ASEAN Task Force on Countering Fake News (TFFN) is an initiative of Vietnam, which is supported and appreciated by ASEAN countries.

At this meeting of the TFFN, countries discussed mechanisms, policies, and experience in dealing with fake news, and discuss building a specialized cooperation mechanism among ASEAN countries to handle and minimize the impact of fake news in the region.

The Ministry of Information and Communications will also coordinate with ASEAN countries, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India and international organizations such as UNESCO, ITU, WB to organize specialized forums with different topics such as digital transformation forum for expanded digital society, digital transformation in smart manufacturing and industry, developing digital connectivity towards digital partnership, digital skills for the community.

Within the framework of Vietnam International Digital Week and in response to the National Digital Transformation Day on October 10, the Ministry of Information and Communications will also organize the Why Vietnam 2022 Talks with the theme "Economics of Vietnam,” and “Vietnamese people actively cooperate and integrate into the world”.

The seminars will discuss the potentials, opportunities and solutions to increase investment attraction and support the establishment of partnerships for digital technology enterprises of Vietnam and other countries.

Vietnam International Week 2022 is an opportunity for organizations, individuals and digital businesses of Vietnam, ASEAN countries and other countries to have direct dialogues to connect, exchange information, and explore cooperation opportunities, trade promotion, investment and market development./.
