Vietnamese Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung has led a delegation to visit Japan at the invitation of his counterpart Taro Aso.
At the talks between the two sides in Tokyo, Minister Dung praised the role of Japan as the largest provider of official development assistance (ODA) capital for Vietnam, with a total amount of 2,078 billion JPY (about 21 billion USD) from 1993 up to now.
He also reviewed the effective bilateral cooperation between the two ministries, especially in the fields of customs, securities and experience sharing in restructuring state-owned enterprises.
The guest stressed that the establishment of the Vietnam Automated Cargo and Port Consolidated System and the Vietnam Customs Information System (VNACCS/VCIS) is a vivid symbol for the fine cooperation between the ministries in recent times.
He also called on the Japanese ministry to continue assisting Vietnam in training employees to serve market development in the country.
After the talks, the two ministers witnessed the signing of a cooperative agreement between Japan’s Financial Services Agency and Vietnam’s State Securities Commission, which is expected to help improve the latter’s capacity in managing and developing the capital market.
During his stay in Japan, Minister Dung also met with Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Shigeru Kiyama.
He expressed his hope that the agency will consider giving more ODA loans to Vietnam in line with the framework of the Special Terms for Economic Partnership.
For his part, Kiyama affirmed that JICA will continue working closely with the Vietnamese government to deploy joint projects in the future.
On the occasion, a credit support contract worth 25 billion JPY (243.5 billion USD) for Vietnam to implement the Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change in Vietnam (SPRCC) and the Economic Management and Competitive Credit (EMCC) programme was signed.
This is the 22nd consecutive year the Japanese Government has offered ODA loans to Vietnam.
By using the loans, many infrastructure projects in Vietnam have been completed and put into use, effectively promoting the country’s socio-economic development.-VNA
