Officials of southern Binh Duong province and the Japanese prefecture of Yamaguchi had a working session on August 21 to mull over ways bolstering cooperation in the time ahead.

Chairman of the Binh Duong People’s Committee Tran Van Nam said local officials have paid a number of working visits to Yamaguchi, a highly developed industrial prefecture, over the past few years.

In late December 2014, the two sides inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on friendship cooperation. Last May, they discussed cooperation possibilities in setting up a Vietnam – Japan industrial park, promoting trade and tourism, attracting hi-tech agricultural projects, education-training, and healthcare, he added.

Nam also briefed the guests about local socio-economic situation, noting that Japanese companies are now investing in 232 projects worth 4.9 billion USD in Binh Duong, ranking first among 39 countries and territories pouring investments there.

President of the Yamaguchi Prefectural Assembly Motonari Hatahara said after the MoU was signed, the assembly received support from its members and shortly set up a union of local parliamentarians on cooperation and friendship promotion.

The visit of his delegation, whose members include Governor Tsugumasa Muraoka and members of the union, aimed to tighten relations between the two sides and examined detailed plans for cooperation in various spheres such as economics, tourism, education and agriculture, he added.

Also on August 21, the Mien Dong (Eastern) International University of Binh Duong and the Yamaguchi University inked an MoU on training and student exchange affiliation.-VNA
