Vietnam maintains Southeast Asia first place ranking

The Vietnam men’s national football team slid down one notch to 133rd place in the world rankings of FIFA on June 6; however, that did not affect their first place standing in the Southeast Asia region.

Vietnam with 231 points is trailed by Thailand ranked 142nd in the world and second in the region with 209 points, and the Philippines ranked 144th in the world and third in the region with 203 points.

Japan sits firmly on top of Asia with 765 points despite its two-place slip to 32nd in the world, followed by second place team, the Republic of Korea (world no. 40, 666 points).

Australia (world no. 47) and Uzbekistan (world no. 58) stayed in third and fourth place in the continental region with 619 and 550 points, respectively, while Vietnam settled for 19th.

The top ten teams in the world saw little change with Spain , Germany and Argentina leading the table with respective scores of 1614, 1416 and 1287 points. The Netherlands took centre stage this month for its four-notch leap to fourth place in the world with 1158 points. The next FIFA rankings will be announced on July 4.-VNA
