Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh recalled that the committee, originally founded as the Vietnam Sports Association for People with Disabilities, was established by a Prime Minister’s decision in 1995. Despite facing enormous difficulties in its early years, the Paralympic movement grew steadily thanks to the determination of athletes, coaches, and strong community support. Today it is an integral part of Vietnam’s sports development.

The Vietnam Paralympic Committee proposed the International Paralympic Committee give equipment and infrastructure assistance to develop sports in the community, implement projects to foster the Paralympic movement, and provide overseas training for doctors.

The Vietnam Paralympic Committee is striving to attract 1.5 million out of more than 7 million persons with disabilities (PwDs) nationwide to participate in sports and physical activities by 2030.
