Vietnam pledges to fulfill ILO membership obligations

Vietnam will make all-out efforts to fulfill its obligations as a member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and further promote cooperation between the organisation and tripartite actors – the Government, employers, and employees in the country.

Geneva (VNA) – Vietnam will make all-out efforts tofulfill its obligations as a member of the International Labour Organisation(ILO) and further promote cooperation between the organisation and tripartiteactors – the Government, employers, and employees in the country.

Dao Ngoc Dung, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA),made that pledge at a plenary session of the 108th InternationalLabour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 18.

He said earlier this month, the Vietnamese National Assembly passeda resolution approving Vietnam’s accession to the ILO’s Convention 98 on theapplication of principles of the right to organise and bargain collectively.

Vietnam’s social partners, with the assistance of the ILO, areworking on the amendment of the Labour Code, making it match nationalsocio-economic development.

Besides, Vietnam is reforming its social security system and wagepolicy, towards harmonious, stable and progressive labour relations, theofficial said, noting that during the process, the country has receivedefficient technical support from the ILO.

Dung called for more support from the organisation and its membersin reforming domestic labour laws, especially policies regarding socialinsurance and labour relations, and in ratifying ILO conventions, particularlybasic ones.

Speaking at another session of the conference on June 17, Chairmanof the General Confederation of Labour Bui Van Cuong affirmed that ensuring employment,towards sustainable employment in the long run, is the common concern of theGovernment, trade union organisations and employers in Vietnam.

The 108th International Labour Conference, from June10-21, brought together nearly 6,000 delegates worldwide to seek solutions toglobal labour-related challenges.

On the sidelines of the event, Dung had a working session with ILODeputy Director General for Policy Deborah Greenfield, who applauded Vietnam’s ratificationof Convention 98 and its amendment to the Labour Code.

The two sides committed to enhancing cooperationto help Vietnam complete its policy system on labour and social insurance.

On this occasion, Dung and Minister of Human Resources of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Nasser bin Thani Juma Al Hamli signed a memorandum of understanding on labourcooperation.-VNA
