Vietnam-proposed resolution on International Day of Play approved

The United Nations (UN) General Assembly on March 25 passed a draft resolution proposed by Vietnam and some other countries designating June 11 as International Day of Play.

New York (VNA) – The United Nations (UN)General Assembly on March 25 passed a draft resolution proposed by Vietnam andsome other countries designating June 11 as International Day of Play.

The resolution was co-sponsored by 138 countries, withVietnam, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Jamaica, Kenya and Luxembourg as co-authors.

Representatives from the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF)and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) applaudedthe initiative and pledged to facilitate the observance.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam's PermanentRepresentative to the UN, stressed the importance of play and recreation tohuman development, and promoting the culture of dialogue, solidarity and cooperation,thus contributing to conflict prevention and peace building.  

For Vietnam, the resolution is expected to help thecountry step up activities to protect children’s rights and interests, headded.

The ambassador thanked other UN member countries fortheir support, and expressed his hope that the initiative will be spread tocontribute to maximising human potential and pushing ahead with theimplementation of the UN 2030 agenda on sustainable development.

The resolution calls on all UN member countries andagencies, and other stakeholders, including non-governmental organisations,research institutes and the private sector, to celebrate the day in order to raisepublic awareness of play and recreational activities./.

Phu Quoc launches English classes for vendors, drivers ahead of APEC 2027

Under the project “Enhancing foreign language capacity for the community in the 2026–30 period, with a vision to 2045”, recently announced by the Phu Quoc Special Zone authorities, English programmes will be piloted at 10-15 schools across all three education levels from September 2026 to June 2027.

An Giang takes zero-tolerance approach to IUU fishing

Alongside the continued implementation of comprehensive anti-IUU fishing measures, An Giang has proposed that the Government promptly introduce policies to support fishermen in switching livelihoods and decommissioning nearshore fishing vessels in order to conserve natural fisheries resources.

Singer, media executive charged over YouTube music copyright infringement

The Investigation Police Agency under the municipal Public Security Department said on August 5 that it had prosecuted and placed in temporary detention Nguyen Thi Hien, owner of the YouTube channel Phuong Diem Huyen, and Nguyen Thanh Hiep, Director of Unicorn Vietnam Media and Entertainment Co., Ltd., for investigation on the charge of infringing copyright and related rights under Article 225 of Vietnam's Penal Code.

Vietnamese students shine at AIMO 2026 international finals
