Vietnam secured 12 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze medals to rank first at the fourth Southeast Asia Karatedo championship which has wrapped up in Vientiane, Laos.
Thailand and Malaysia came in second and third, respectively.
The competition, running from April 3-5, attracted athletes from seven countries in ASEAN including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
The Vietnamese competitors are primarily young athletes (born in 1995-1996). The result in the competition is expected to promote Vietnamese martial arts and lead to further victories in the future.
Vietnam also finished first at the third Southeast Asia Karatedo championship held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, Vietnam in 2014.-VNA
